DomainKeys Identified Mail
Learn more about DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) and in what ways this option may help your business.
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an authentication system used to prove that an e-mail has been sent by an authorized email server or individual. An e-signature is added to the header of the email by using a private encryption key. When the message is received, a public key that’s available in the global DNS database is used to verify who actually sent it and whether its content has been modified in any way. The essential function of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to obstruct the widely spread scam and spam emails, as it makes it impossible to forge an email address. If an email message is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for instance, but the signature doesn’t match, you will either not get the email message at all, or you’ll receive it with a warning alert that most probably it’s not authentic. It depends on mail service providers what exactly will happen with an email message which fails to pass the signature test. DKIM will also offer you an added safety layer when you communicate with your business partners, for example, as they can see for themselves that all the messages that you exchange are genuine and haven’t been tampered with in the meantime.
DomainKeys Identified Mail in Hosting
The DomainKeys Identified Mail feature is pre-enabled for all domains that are hosted in a hosting account on our cloud servers, so you won’t need to do anything yourself to turn it on. The only requirement is that the particular domain name should be hosted in a web hosting account on our platform using our MX and NS records, so that the e-mail messages will go through our email servers. The private key will be generated on the server and the TXT resource record, which contains the public key, will be published to the DNS database automatically, so you will not have to do anything manually on your end in order to enable this option. The DKIM authentication system will permit you to send trustable e-mail messages, so if you are sending offers or a newsletter to customers, for instance, your email messages will always reach their target audience, while unauthorized third parties will not be able to forge your email addresses.
